The number of political parties backing former Nigerian Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has risen to 55 on Monday.
The plan was to see that the main opposition party candidate , Atiku defeat the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Buhari is the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The number was boosted on Monday December 17 from 46 to 55 as nine more political parties joined the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP.
The event which was held at the Shehu Musa Yaradua Centre in Abuja saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the new parties and the CUPP.
The parties that signed MoU today (Monday) are: United Patriot (UP), Save Nigeria Congress (SNC), Peoples Coalition Party (PCP), Reform and Advancement Party(RAP), Alliance of Social Democrats (ASD), We The People of Nigeria (WTPN), Change Party (CP), New Generation Party (NGP), Alliance National Party (ANP).
The parties received by the chairman of the CUPP Steering Committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, pledged their support and commitment to ensuring that the consensus candidate, Atiku Abubakar defeat Buhari in the February 2019 election.
