2023: Education, Healthcare Service, Agriculture will be My Priority – Hon. Umar Jega


The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Migrants & Refugees and representive of Aleoro/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency of Kebbi State, Hon. Umar Mohammed Jega has reiterated his commitment to education, healthcare delivery service and agriculture.

In an interview after the purchase and submission of the All Progressive Congress Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, Jega said his priority is to consolidate and expand his commitment in eduction, healthcare service and agriculture.

“I’m sure you have been following, the development in my constituency. My priority now is to consolidate and expand on three critical sectors, namely education, health and agriculture.

These are the three most important sectors that need to be Consolidated and expanded so that people will be self-employed. Now, there is mass unemployment and poverty in the land. If you can develop these three areas, there will be progress.

“It will create more job opportunities for the youths and enables them to be self-employed.”

As the Chairman of House Committee on IDPs, Migrants and Refugees, Jega also made several efforts through oversight function to alleviate the pains and suffering of the IDPs in various camps.

One of his interventions in his constituency include the medical outreach programme which allowed about 3000 persons to get free medical treatment while about 500 beneficiaries of the programme had eye surgery operation.

About 500 people also had free surgical operation for different ailments such as hernia, appendicitis, hydrocele, lipoma etc.

According to Jega, the free medical outreach programme was done in collaboration with Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

In order to encourage education of the young ones, Jega purchased forms of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s UTME for over 4oo students in his constituency.

He also empowered several less privileged people including young people and women through training on computer, tailoring, fashion and designing among others. Several others were provided with motorcycles.

There is hardly any festive period particularly Sallah, that Hon. Jega did not provide truck-load of food stuff notably, bags of rice, millet etc to his constituents.

Jega is also among the lawmakers that warm others through contribution to bills and motions at the floor of the Green Chamber.

He presented several motions, sponsored and co-sponsored bills.
