Former Senate Minority Leader and Current Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has expressed joy and satisfaction over the judgment of Appeal Court nullifying the election of Senator Chris Ekpenyong
While Akpabio contested the February 23 Parliamentary election under the platform of All Progressive Congress, Ekpenyong contested the election under the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Appeal Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State has sacked Ekpenyong and ordered the Indepedent National Electoral Commission to conduct fresh election in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
Chris Ekpenyong of (PDP) was initially declared winner of the election by INEC, but Akpabio challenged the decision at the election’s tribunal.
He lost at the tribunal and challenged the decision at the Court of Appeal, which nullified the election.
Akpabio in a swift reaction on his Twitter page, said the judgement was a victory for democracy and thanked his people for standing by him.
