BY OBUTE JAMES

The House of Representatives Members elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday declared their support for Senator Tanko Al-makura to emerge as the National Chairman of APC.

The lawmakers expressed their willingness to do what they can do in order to bring Al-makura on board as chairman of the ruling party, while addressing him as ‘incoming chairman.’

Al-makura also told the lawmakers that about two months ago the entire Nasarawa State APC chieftains and members, including Governor Abdullahi Sule, State Assembly Members, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen and Councilors had all endorsed him for the position of APC National Chairman.

While answering questions from lawmakers regarding his leadership style if he emerges chairman of the party, Al-makura said:

“I will ensure internal party democracy and equity, justice and fairness. I will promote gender and youth aspiration. My leadership will be inclusive.

He promised to pay special attention to the vulnerable and people living with disabilities.

Al-Makura said that he was privileged to be a member of the merger committee that led to the formation of APC from the CPC.

“I have seen a lot of alliances, but never in the history of merger have we seen one like that of the legacy parties that formed the APC,” he said.

He said that the legacy parties were all focused and determined to succeed, adding that the unity and commitment that led to the merger must be sustained.

Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, who told the lawmakers that the Speaker was unavoidably absent because of his engagement outside Abuja also said that the visit showed that Al-Makura was willing to deepen democracy, promising that the lawmakers would pray for him and wish him well.

He said that Al-Makura has the quality and capacity to move the APC forward if elected as its chairman.

Unlike the meeting of Al-makura with APC which was open to the media and others, the meeting of Senator Abdullahi Adamu with the same lawmakers on Tuesday 25th March was held behind closed.

The APC convention where the new national chairman and other officials of the party will emerge comes up on 26th March, 2022.
