As INEC Presents Certificate of Return to Federal Lawmakers, Two Imo Senators Left Out

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Thursday 14 February presented Certificate of Return to Federal Lawmakers who won the parliamentary election conducted on February 23 in the 36 states and FCT, Abuja.

The Certificate of Return was presented to the lawmakers at two different time. While the event for the presentation of the Certificate of Return for Senators commenced at about 10.30am, that of the members of the House of Representatives started about 2pm.

However, INEC made real its threat that it will not present Certificate of Return to anyone who was declared winner under duress.

The outgoing Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha was a victim of such threat as he was not presented with Certificate of Return on Thursday. Okorocha was not seen around the venue of the event, International Conference Centre, Abuja. Out of the three senatorial districts in Imo State, only representative of Imo East got Certificate of Return on Thursday.

Any lawmaker without INEC Certificate of Return will not be Sworn-in when the 9th National Assembly is constituted in June.
