Buhari Appoints, Decorates Abubakar Adamu as Inspector General of Police

President Muhammadu Buhari has conferment the appointment of Mr. Mohammad Abubakar Adamu acting Inspector General of Police following the retirement of Ibrahim Idris.
Adamu was decorated as the new Inspector General of Police by Buhari who was being assisted by the immediate past Police IG, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja.
The new IG who hails from Nasarawa was an AIG before his elevation to the number one position in Nigeria Police.
Adamu was seen on Tuesday morning going to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, for a meeting.
While Adamu was at the Villa, Idris was with other security chiefs at the Cenotaph of the Unknown Soldier laying a wreath in commemoration of the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
His appointment came after many Nigerians kicked against an alleged move by President Buhari to extend the tenure of former IGP Idris, base on allegations of plans to use his influence to manipulate the 2019 general election.
Idris clocked January 3, 2019, when he clocked the mandatory 35 years in service on January 3, 2019 and becomes 60 years today (January 15, 2019). He was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State, Commissioner of Police, Enugu State and has also served at Interpol and FCIID, Alagbon and later promoted to the rank of AIG where he was in charge of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos.

By his appointment all the police DIGs and some AIGs who are his senior may go on compulsory retirement.
