Following a motion of Urgent National Importance by the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Busineess, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, the House has mandated its committee on Air Force to investigate the immediate and remote causes of Air Force crashes.
Presenting the motion, on Tuesday, Hon. Kuye said:
“Aware also that there has been an increase in the spate of fighter jets and fighter helicopter crashes under the current Air-force leadership especially from 2018
“Cognizant that in March 2018 a Diamond-40, training aircraft crashed in Kauran Dawa, Saminaka LGA, of Kaduna State, during a training exercise.
“Note also that 2 Air-force aircrafts crashed in Gazupe area of Abuja during a rehearsal flight for the independence celebration in the same year 2018
“Further note that these crashes have increased, as we have had 2 other crashes in 2019 which are not combat related.
“Worrisome is the number of lives that are being lost in these crashes.
“Worrisome also is the over USD 1billion loss in aircraft/ helicopter and trained personnel lost in these avoidable crashes.”
He prays the House to mandate the House Committee on Air Force to investigate the immediate and remote causes of these crashes and recommend actions to forestall future occurrences.
“The Committee on Air Force to meet with the leadership of Nigerian Air-force to examine the level of financial loss suffered by the country due to the crashes, available insurance cover of personnel and other relevant matter that can lead to ending such disaster and report back to the House.”
