A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency of Delta State, Hon. Ben Igbakpa, has said the Joint House Committee on Steel and work will take drastic action if the Managing Director of Premium Steel Company Ltd, Mr Prasanta Mishra,
fails to appear before the investigative hearing on Wednesday 3rd November, 2021.
The House of Representatives joint Committee on Steel and Work had on Monday 1st November 2021 summoned the Managing Director of Premium Steel Company Ltd to appear before it on Wednesday over his non-appearance on Monday to make his submission over the collapse of Delta Steel Company which was built with over $1.9 billion.
Hon. Igbakpa sponsored the motion which was adopted by the House of Representatives over the collapse of the Delta Steel Company.
Speaking to THE LEGISLATURE in an interview, Hon. Ben Igbakpa said the collapse of the DSC and refusal of the Premium Steel Company Ltd which acquired the company to pay 10% compensation to the host community made him to sponsor the motion which was adopted by the House
Though Hon. Igbakpa did say what will be the next action against the MD of Premium Steel and Mines Ltd if he fails to appear on Wednesday, it was observed that lawmakers will declare him wanted and ask security organizations to produce him before the investive panel.
The House of Representatives’ Joint Committee on Steel Development and Works on Monday 1st November began investigation of the collapse of Delta Steel Company Plc in Oviwian-Aladja, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, which was reportedly built with about$1.9bn.
Representatives of the Premium Steel and Mines Limited, which is now running the facility, however staged a walkout on the committee at its investigative hearing in Abuja on Monday after the lawmakers insisted that their lawyer would not speak on their behalf.
