Kwankwaso Calls for Objective Social Media Engagement, Warns against ‘Negative Propaganda’

BY OBUTE JAMES

The Leader and Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator (Engr) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has called for objective use of social media as the nation prepares for the 2023 general election.

Kwankwaso made the call during a two-day social media training with the theme: Approaching 2023 General Election using Social Media as a Tool for Mobilization in Abuja on Tuesday

He called on the youths particularly his party supporters not to engage in what he called negative propaganda.

Kwankwaso was represented at the event by Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi

Similarly, the National Chairman of NNPC, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali noted that the social media is very important but called on the party supporters across the country to be decent in whatever they are doing.

He also condemned a recent poll by one of the NGOs that predicted that one of the presidential candidates as a winner of the next year election.

Prof. Alkali said the poll was not based on any scientific method and wondered how such a prediction will emanate when campaign for the election has not started.

The National Publicly Secretary of NNPP, Dr. Major Agbo in his speech highlighted the purpose of the training.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you to this special Social Media Training, the first by our great Party, New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) since it was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2002. It shows the importance the leadership of our great Party attached to the New Media and its attraction and unprecedented use by Nigerians, particularly our youth for effective communication and interaction as it affords citizens the unique opportunity to express their views on all issues anywhere they are. This has made social media an effective channel of communication, interaction and mobilization critical for the success of the 2023 general election that will redefine the direction our beleaguered nation will move in the next four years and destinies of over 200 million Nigerians. The mistake of voting into power the outgoing All Progressives Congress in 2015 and repeating same mistake in 2019 is what put Nigeria in political life-support which our great Party, NNPP is strongly determined to rescue and give a new lease of life to our impoverished, oppressed and subdued people.

“It is a collective task by all patriotic citizens. As Publicity Secretaries of various State Chapters of New Nigeria People’s Party, media aides to our esteemed Candidates and social media activists, it is our duty to mobilize fellow Nigerians to this patriotic civic exercise of electing credible leaders who will pilot the affairs of the nation in the next four years. Our great Party has painstakingly presented proven men and women of integrity for various elections. We shall support them, project their election promises to their Constituencies derived from the NNPP Manifesto which is our social contract with Nigerians. An irrevocable trust we must fulfill if voted into power.

“NNPP voice must be heard and resonate across the nation with its message of hope for a NEW NIGERIA that has a future for all Nigerians. We see light at the end of the tunnel. We see a glorious future for our nation. We see a new Nigeria citizens will be proud of as the great arsenal of democracy in Africa. We see hope for the hopeless, help for the helpless, unity in diversity, prosperity for the impoverished, freedom for the oppressed and captives, voice for the voiceless and goodwill to citizens of the world. Nigeria shall be great again.

“The objective of this two-day intensive social media training is to equip us, NNPP spokespersons for the tasks ahead and correct obvious mistakes, misunderstandings, wrong perceptions and wrong display of NNPP Logo/Symbol which can confuse the electorate on election days.

“The leadership of the Party noted this and decided to address social media related issues viz:

– Massive abuse and mutilation of our Party Logo/Symbol
The
– To engage our social media activists on the need to propagate the right Party Logo/Symbol to avoid confusing voters as the elections approach.”

He said at the end of the programme, “we expect to have more disciplined social media groups specializing in such areas as political education ( including aggressive promotion of the Party’s Logo/Symbol), programmes and Manifesto, and
general communication skill using all major languages.”

According to Major, “the journey to a New Nigeria is on course, with all hands on deck our party will win the next government both at the centre and across the States. This noble training will also ensure a vibrant, robust, dynamic, disciplined and effectively controlled/coordinated media agenda that will enhance our chances come 2023 as time is of the essence.

“It will further bring our great Party and its eminent Candidates to national spotlights and attract more Nigerians who desire a New Nigeria which only the NNPP can usher in.

“His Excellency, Senator (Dr) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been going round the country commissioning NNPP Secretariats and consulting with critical stakeholders ahead of the 2023 presidential election. The mammoth crowds that welcomed him in all the States he had visited so far are unprecedented, and overwhelming, an eloquent testimony of Nigerians’ acceptance of our great Party. No wonder some political parties are intimidated by this outpouring of support and goodwill, and attempted to stop this fast moving train, a political tsunami that will sweep away political parties that put Nigeria in life-support as well as retire permanently the cabal that hold the nation captive for its personal aggrandizement.

“Our dream is to enthrone a NEW NIGERIA that has a future for all citizens.

“NNPP campaign will be issues-based as we take the lead in strengthening and deepening our emerging democracy. We also urge other political parties and their candidates to imbibe issues-based campaign and eschew politics of bitterness and rancour that impeded the nation’s electoral process. INEC should also provide a level playing field to all political parties and their candidates participating in various elections. Nigerians, indeed the whole world expect free, fair, credible, transparent, generally acceptable and peaceful elections. The people’s mandate must be respected.

“While l appreciate participants for the good job done so far in promoting party activities, this training will spur us to do more as we await the incoming NNPP-led Federal and States governments in 2023. Truly, a NEW NIGERIA is possible with NNPP. Together, we shall accomplish it! We shall return here to celebrate a NEW NIGERIA.”
