The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory has called for sincere and serious commitment to develop Abuja.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Abuja, Senator Abubakar Kyari made the call on Tuesday when the Minister of FCT Administration, Hon. Mohammed Bello appeared before the committee to defend the FCT 2020 revised budget.
The FCT 2020 revised budget defence came up when the budget circle has less than one month to expire.
Presenting N189 billion as the revised budget for the 2020 fiscal year, Bello said the budget was reduced from N278 billion to 189.5 billion due to revenue shortfall.
He said apart from the revenue shortfall, COVID 19 pandemic also cost the FCTA N28.5 billion across all secretariats and agencies under the ministry.
He begged the committee which serves as the FCT State House of Assembly to allow them continue utilizing the statutory allocation until 2021 budget is approved.
He also said most projects in the 2020 budget will be rollover to 2021 budget.
Though Senator Kyari reechoed Bello’s request for extension of time in order to utilize the statutory allocation for 2020, he did give them the permission to do so.
Kyari however appealed to the minister to ensure the 2021 statutory allocation of the FCT is presented on time to the National Assembly in order to sustain the January to December budget cycle.
