Soldiers Invade Daily Trust Offices in Abuja, Maiduguri over Alleged Story on Boko Haram

Armed soldiers on Sunday invaded Daily Trust headquarters in Jabi area of Abuja, as well as its Maiduguri office taking away computers, laptops and other properties from the newsroom.
The military personnel retrieved the phones of all staff member in the office, the paper reported.
It is still not yet clear why invaded the newspaper offices but it may not be unconnected with the lead story of the newspaper on Sunday on military operation in the North East.
The paper had reported that the military plans to reclaim Baga and other communities taken over by Boko Haram some weeks ago.
The military authorities had earlier claimed that no territory was being occupied by the insurgents.
When armed soldiers on Sunday invaded Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, they arrested the regional editor, Uthman Abubakar and a reporter, Ibrahim Sawab.
A witness also disclosed that the soldiers requested to see Daily Trust’s Political Editor, Hamza Idris, whose byeline appeared on the story.
Daily Trust reported that the soldiers shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid.
