Senator Yakubu Oseni, Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT/Cybercrime and represenative of Kogi Central Senatorial District has said that youth empowerement is one of the major ways of fighting unemployment and insecurity in the land.

Speaking in an interview, Senator Oseni said “I actually engaged some of the youths in productive venture. You need to teach them how to catch fish than to give them fish because when you cease to give them fish, it will be disastourous.

“I take delight in taking the youths off the street because If you really want to fight crime of any kind, you need to engage these young people in productive sector. I will continue to say this any where I have the opportunity.

Speaking on his constituency programne, he said “In the last empowerment excercise, we started with 150 youths by training them in different trades such as computer training (how to repair laptop computers etc), GSM repair, mining of stones among others.

“We thereafter enpowered them. We will continue to do this to the extent our resources can reach. There is no limit to the number of young people we intend to engage in productive venture.

On the recent visit to some MDAs, by his committee, he said the visit was based on the motion at the floor of the Senate on 27th November, 2019 on the growth of digital technology, its consequences and the need to safeguard present and future of Nigeria.

“We visited several MDAs and engaged them in terms of the level of their ICT compliance, cyber secuirty among other things. We were also in the office of the Accountant General of the Federation on the same issue. Most of them are uptodate on ICT but what we are concerned with is on the aspect of data protection and cyber security. The fact that you don’t have cyber attack now, does not mean you will not have it in the future. The more you advance technologically, the more you are prone to cyber attack.

“So far we have visited over 20 MDAs including EFCC, NFIU, NAFDAC, all the agencies in aviation sector, FRSC among others.

On the Supreme Court judgment affirming the election of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Senator Oseni said “I thanked God that Supreme Court has affirmed what has happened in the field. I call on the governor to re-double his efforts in providing dividends of democracy to the people.

“The people should also encourage him by appreciating the little the resources can do. In Economics, we have numerous needs and challenges but the resources are scarce resources which cannot meet all the needs.”
