The Zamfara State Government under Governor Bello Matawalle has dethroned Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ibrahim, and and sacked the district head of Kanoma, Alhaji Ahmed Kanoma.
The two monarchs were earlier suspended for alleged involvement in armed banditry in their respective areas, for which their subjects protested to Governor Bello who immediately suspended the duo and setup a committee to investigate them.
According to the letter signed by the State deputy governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, the two monarchs were found guilty and that offences against them were discovered to be true.
Gusau who said their sack would serve as deterrent to other traditional leaders in the state, Gusau maintained that “We took this action following the outcome of a committee’s investigation set up by the state government to investigate some allegations leveled against them.”
About a months ago, the two leaders were manhandled by their subjects in Kanoma town, with calls for their removal when Governor Matawalle paid a condolence visit to the families of 32 persons killed by the bandits.
The protesters alleged that the duo connive with criminals to carry out atrocity. Matawalle immediately set up a committee to investigate the issue and after series of investigations.
