Dino Melaye to be Charged to Court from Hospital

The representative of Kogi West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, Senator Dino Melaye, accompanied by his colleagues was taking to Special Anti-Robbery Squad office, Guzape, Abuja, for interrogation.

Melaye had submitted himself to the police on Friday eight day after holing up in his residence to avoid arrest by policemen for alleged homicide.

Melaye however, slumped shortly before interrogation by SARS operatives and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.

Police had stormed his Abuja house in an attempt to arrest him over allegation that thugs loyal to him shot one Sgt Danjuma Aliyu. Police claimed that Sgt Danjuma Aliyu is lying critically ill at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, due to the injury he sustained from gunshot by suspected thugs loyal to Melaye last year July.

Melaye’s attempt to get court order to prevent police from arresting him and leave his house failed as the vacating high court judge refused to grant his request and adjourned the case to January 14 for accelerated hearing.

The embattled Senator and his colleagues, who came to his residence to show solitary, went to the police headquarters apparently to resolve his issues with Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, but when they could not meet him, Melaye was taking to the SARS office.

The Force spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood while confirming the arrest of Melaye said that he had been taken to Police hospital for medical attention.

According to him, Moshood Dino Melaye would be taken to court after investigation.

He said the policemen had waited for eight days for the senator to obey the law and surrender himself for arrest when his claims that he was not in Abuja was found to be false.
