The House of Representatives Committee on Port and Harbour has called on the Nigerian Shippers Council to improve on its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Garba Mohammed Datti made this known when the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers Council, Hon. Emmanuel Jime appeared before the committee to defend the agency 2022 Budget Proposal.
Hon. Datti who represnts Sabon Gari Federal Constituency of Kaduna State noted that with the recent amendment to the Nigerian Shippers Council, the agency needs to improve on its IGR.
Hon. Jime a former House of Representatives Member from Benue State proposed N30 billion as revenue of the council for 2022 fiscal year.
In line with the Federal Government port reform agenda, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council was appointed the Port Economic Regulator in February 2014, to create effective regulatory regime at the Nigerian ports for the control of tariff, rates, charges and other economic services.
