Senators Begin Screening of Ministerial Nominees, Complain of Exclusion of FCT from the List as They

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday commenced the screening of 43 names of ministerial nominees President Muhammadu Buhari sent to them for confirmation as ministers.

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan had on Tuesday read the letter from Buhari seeking the confirmation of the 43 nominees.

The Senators began the screening on Wednesday with some of the nominees.

They asked some of their colleagues who are among the nominees to only take a bow and go in accordance with their tradition that does not allow anyone who has served as a senator to be subjected to regorious screening.

Some of those asked to take a bow and go on Wednesday as of the time of filling this report include Senator George Akume, Benue; Senator Adeleke O. Mamowora, Lagos; Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom and Rotimi Amechi, Rivers State

Though Rotimi Amechi has never served as a Senator, he was allowed to take a bow and go without responding to questions of Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The Senate President, Lawan asked him to take a bow and go on the ground that he has legislative experience because he had served as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Other nominees that have appeared before the senators in the chamber on Wednesday include Ukechukwu Ogah, Abia; Adamu Adamu, Bauch; Obgonnaya Onu, Ebpnyi; Emeka Nwajuaba, Imo and Suleiman H. Adamu, Jigawa.

Others include Olamilekan Adegbite, Ogun and Mrs Sharon O. Ikeazor, Anambra.

Meanwhile, some Senators had complained against the exclusion of FCT citizens from the ministerial list.
